Tapeko was captured on August 31st 1988 and arrived at Brookfield Zoo in 1991. After two years at Brookfield Zoo Tapeko gave birth to her first calf named Kaylee. When Kaylee was 8 years old she gave birth to her first calf herself and her calf was named Micco. About two years later Tapeko gave birth to her second calf named Noelani. During Noelani’s birth Tapeko got problems and Brookfield Zoo’s dolphin trainers had to help her. Two years later Tapeko gave birth to her third calf named Allison. In January 2008 Tapeko’s grandson Micco unfortunately passed away and about one year later, in April 2009, Kaylee became really ill and passed away.

On August 30th 2009 Tapeko, Noelani and Allison were moved to Minnesota Zoo since Brookfield Zoo's dolphinarium was going to be re-built. At Minnesota Zoo they were introduced to the young female dolphin Spree and on April 14th 2010 she was moved to the Brookfield Zoo when Tapeko and her two daughters were moved back to their home. Tapeko measures 2,7 meters and weighs 199,6 kilograms (weight and length a couple of years ago). She is currently living at Brookfield Zoo with her daughters Noelani and Allison plus Spree and a male called Chinook.
