The fish kitchen at Kolmården's Dolphinarium
In most dolphinariums each dolphin has its own bowl with its own name on
it where their special amount of fish is put. How much a dolphin eats can
depend on their age, if they have calves that nurse etc. The fish is sorted and
weighed in a room, which at Kolmården is called “the fishkitchen”.
In many dolphinariums the hygiene is very important since dolphins are
very sensitive to bacterium that they are not used to. The dolphin trainers
often wash their hands with soap and disinfectants and there are often “boxes”
with disinfectants that you have to step on so that your shoes do not bring any
bacterium or dirt into the dolphinarium. Also many parts of the dolphinarium,
like pool edges, are often cleaned.
