Ariel
was born on October 6th 1996 in Kolmården’s Dolphinarium. She is the
daughter of Vicky, who is 36 years old, and of the famous Flip, that
unfortunately passed away in 2003. Ariel was born just a little more than one
year after her big sister Vindy had passed away. The same year as Ariel was
born Delphi gave birth to a calf named Dino. Dino is one of Ariel’s many
halfsiblings and today he lives at Zoomarine in Portugal where he was moved in
2003 together with Lotus who also is one of Ariel’s halfsiblings.
When
Ariel was five years old, in 2001, Vicky gave birth to her third calf that soon
was named Luna. Later the same year Fenix was born and he became the last
dolphin to be born at Kolmården in almost seven years before his sister Lyra,
who also is the halfsister of Ariel, gave birth to a calf on September 7th
2008. Only two days after the birth of Lyra’s daughter Fenah, also Ariel gave
birth to her first calf. Ariel’s calf was a male and a few months later he was
named Sting.
Today
Ariel’s son Sting is the absolutely most curios dolphin at Kolmården and he
loves to look at people through the windows in the Lagoon. Ariel herself is
most often swimming with Sting, Lyra or Nephele but sometimes also with Luna or
Vicky and is sometimes looking after her niece Fenah. Like all of Kolmården’s
adult dolphins Ariel is participating in Kolmården’s dolphin shows. Ariel looks
like a “typical dolphin” and she has relatively few scars but can be recognized
by a white stroke on her tail fluke. She could be mixed up with Pichi or Lyra
but Lyra has several light spots on her back and Pichi does not have as much
underbite as the rest of the dolphins.
