Sting is
the youngest dolphin of the 8 dolphins at Kolmården. He was born in the morning
of September 9th 2008 and is the son of Ariel and Pichi. His
grandmother Vicky and aunt Luna live at Kolmården as well. Two days before
Sting was born Lyra gave birth to a little female later named Fenah. Fenah was
the first dolphin to be born at Kolmården since 2001, when Lyra’s little
brother Fenix was born (currently living at Marineland Antibes). Sting is
lighter than Fenah and has a shorter nose than she but since they are about the
same age and still are young calves it can be difficult to tell them apart.
Sting
was born in the Lagoon and lived there together with Ariel, Lyra and Fenah for
the first two months of his life. In the beginning of November 2008 he had met
all of Kolmården’s female dolphins but he had not met his father Pichi. Later
in November the gate between the Lagoon and the other pools was opened so today
all of Kolmården’s dolphin are living together again. Sting got his name in
December 2008 through a naming contest and in the winter of 2008-2009 both he
and Fenah began to play with fish. In June 2009 Sting had not began to eat the
fish though.
Today
Sting is definitely the most curios dolphin at Kolmården Zoo. Unlike Fenah, who
is fairly shy, he is often standing by the windows in the Lagoon and looking at
the people there. He is also often playing with Fenah and is mostly swimming
together with Ariel or Fenah but sometimes also with Nephele or Luna.
