Lyra was
born on July 12th 1999 in Kolmården’s Dolphin Lagoon. The birth took
1 hour and 40 minutes and she is Lotty’s second calf, and Lotus’ first sibling.
Lyra means curve shaped and when she was younger she loved to look at the
people through the windows in the Lagoon. When Lyra was only 2 years old Lotty
gave birth to another calf, Fenix. Lyra also has 5 halfsiblings of whom
13-year-old Ariel and 8-year-old Luna still live at Kolmården’s Dolphinarium. In
2003 Lotus was moved to Zoomarine in Portugal together with Dino and the same
year Lyra’s father Flip passed away. When Lyra was 6 years old both her mother
Lotty and little brother Fenix were moved to Marineland Antibes in France
together with the female Sharky.
Lyra can
be recognized by the light spots on her body. You may confuse her with Luna or
Ariel but Lyra has light spots while Luna’s are dark and Ariel does not have
any spots at all. Lyra was the first female Pichi became intrested in when he
arrived at Kolmården in 2005 and she still is his best friend in the group. On
September 7th Lyra gave birth to her first calf, a little female
weighing 18 kilograms named Fenah, and the father of Fenah is Pichi.
Today
Lyra is mostly swimming together with Ariel or Fenah unlike a coulpe of years
ago when she almost only swam with Pichi. Like all of Kolmården’s adult
dolphins Lyra is participating in Kolmården’s dolphin show.
