On
September 7th 2008 2 o’clock in the morning a dolphin calf was born
at Kolmården for the first time in almost 7 years. The calf was a female and in
December 2008 she was named Fenah. Fenah is the daughter of 10-year-old Lyra,
who also is born at Kolmården Zoo, and of 27-year-old Pichi, who arrived at
Kolmården in 2005. At birth she weighed 18 kilograms. Fenah also has a 2 days
younger cousin since Lyra’s halfsister Ariel gave birth to a son on September 9th
2008. Ariel’s calf, Sting, is also the halfbrother of Fenah since Pichi is the
father of Sting too. Fenah has a lot of other halfsiblings too since Pichi
became the father of 8 dolphins before he arrived at Kolmården.
Fenah
was born in the Lagoon and lived there together with Lyra, Ariel and Sting
until the gate between the pool where they were and the pool where the other
dolphins were was opened in November 2008. Before this Fenah had already met
Luna, Vicky and Nephele and she had also been in pool between the Lagoon and
the show pool. In December 2008 Fenah was named through a naming contest.
During the winter 2008-2009 she began to play with fish and in the begginging
of the summer 2009 Fenah also began to eat the fish.
Fenah
looks a lot like her 2 days younger halfbrother Sting but her nose is longer
than his and she is darker than he is. She is often swimming together with Lyra
or Ariel but sometimes also with Nephele and can often be seen playing with
Sting. Unlike Sting, who is very curious, Fenah is fairly shy and is mostly not
standing by the windows in the Lagoon to look at the people there. On the other
hand she really likes to play with balls and she also began to eat fish before
Sting did.
