Nephele was born in 1983 and was captured on April 7th 1989, when she was presumed to be 6 years old. She arrived at Kolmården on December 28th 1994 from Carl Hagenbeck Tierpark, a zoo in Germany that no longer keep dolphins, together with the female dolphin Delphi (who unfortunately passed away in 2007). In the spring of 1995 Nephele gave birth to a calf but unfortunately this calf did not survive. Nephele often swam together with Tina before Tina unfortunately passed away in 2006/2007. In August 2007 Nephele mostly swam with Ariel who is born in Kolmården’s dolphinarium. In the fall of 2007 she also swam together with Ariel’s little sister Luna and Luna’s mother Vicky.
Today,
Nephele still swims a lot with Ariel, Luna and Vicky and sometimes also with
Ariel’s son Sting. Nephele’s dorsal fin leans a little and it is possible to
confuse her with 36-year-old Vicky but Vicky’s dorsal fin does not lean like
Nephele’s and Nephele does not have as many scars as Vicky has.
