Penelope was captured in 1969 in Florida and arrived at Kolmården Zoo the same year. She was born probably born in 1960. When Penelope arrived at Kolmårde she was aggressive and sometimes she refused to eat. But later she became one of the best dolphins in the dolphin show and within six months she had learned all of the tricks/behaviours that the other dolphins had learned during the time she had refused training. On June 2nd 1977 Penelope gave birth to her first calf that was a female and was named Penny. Penny was not just Penelope's first calf but also the first calf born in Kolmården's dolphinarium. Unfortunately Penny passed away when she was about four years old. In the beginning of the 1980s Penelope got skin problems and during several weeks she was taken out of the water to be treated until her skin problems disappeared. On April 10th 1983 Penelope gave birth to her second calf but unfortunately the little male calf was stillborn. Penelope passed away when she was about 30 years old, on March 19th 1990 due to pneumonia and dermatitis.
