Pichi
was captured in April 1988 and at that time he was presumed to be 6 years old,
born in 1982. He arrived at Parc Asterix in France on June 18th 1988
together with the male Guama. During his years at Parc Asterix Pichi became the
father of 8 dolphins, while Guama (who still lives at Parc Asterix) has not
became the father of any dolphins yet. In September 2008 Pichi became the
father of two more calves when Kolmården’s dolphins Lyra and Ariel gave birth to
their first calves.
On
October 11th 2005 Pichi arrived at Kolmården. He is on a breeding
loan at Kolmården and it is not decided how long he will stay. Pichi met the
other dolphins, 8 females, after a few days. The female Daphne unfortunately
passed away in 2006 and in 2006/2007 also Tina passed away. Delphi became
pregnant sometime during the summer 2006 and was going to give birth to her
calf in the summer of 2007. Unfortunately the calf was stillborn and Delphi
passed away too, this means that five of the 8 females still live at Kolmården.
Pichi measures 2,67 meters and weighs 210 kilograms (weight and length 2005), which makes him the largest dolphin at Kolmården. He is easy to recognize since he does not have many scars at all, but if you would confuse him with any of the other dolphins it would probably be Ariel since she does not have many scars either. Also, Pichi does not have as much underbite as the other dolphins have, so he can also be recognized by his nose.
