Sharkane
was captured in October 1989 in Iceland. She was presumed to be born in 1985
and she arrived to Marineland Antibes in January 1990. After 3 years at
Marineland Sharkane gave birth to her first calf, a female named Shouka. In
1999 Sharkane gave birth to her second calf, the male Inouk, and in 2001 she
gave birth to her third calf Wiki. Unfortunately Wiki was Sharkane’s last calf
as Marineland Antibes’ orca male Kim II (who was the father of all of
Sharkane’s calves) passed away in 2005. Unfortunately Sharkane passed away on
January 3rd 2009 after 2 months of illness. Sharkane measured 5,5
meters and weighed 2994 kilograms.
