Lolita
is Miami Seaquarium’s only orca. She was captured on August 8th 1970
and arrived at Miami Seaquarium the same year. When Lolita arrived at Miami
Seaquarium another orca named Hugo already lived there. Lolita and Hugo lived
together until Hugo unfortunately passed away in 1980 and since then Lolita has
only lived with some pacifc white-sided dolphins.
Today
Lolita lives together with five pacifc white-sided dolphins in one of Miami
Seaquarium’s centres. Since she lives in a very small pool many people want to
release her into the sea but even though many people fight for that they have
not succeded to convince Miami Seaquarium. Some people also think that Lolita
should be moved to another dolphinarium where she can live with other orcas or
that Miami Seaquarium should build a bigger centre for Lolita.
Lolita
is also called Tokitae and she measures 6 meters and weighs 3175 kilograms
(weight and length 2004).
