Mattie stranded on April 30th 1996 and was rescued by Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network. Mattie was presumed to be about one year old when she stranded and therefore it was decided that she could not return to the sea. Instead, she was moved to Seaworld San Antonio on October 31st 1996 and has lived there since then. In April 2001 Mattie gave birth to her first calf that was a male and was named Max. Unfortunately Max passed away when he was only five years old, in July 2006. In June 2008 Mattie gave birth to her second calf, a female named Brie, and today she lives in the centre Dolphin Cove with her youngest calf and several other dolphins. Mattie weighs 183 kilograms.
