Takara was born on July 9th 1991 at Seaworld San Diego and is the daughter of Kasatka and Kotar. Like most orcas, and other cetaceans, Takara was born with her tail first. As a calf Takara was very curious and loved to look at Seaworld San Diego's visitors through the windows. On May 3rd 2002 Takara gave birth to her first calf who was a female and was named Kohana. About two years later, on April 24th 2004, Takara was moved to Seaworld Orlando where she gave birth to her second calf on November 23rd 2005. This calf was a male and was named Trua.
When Trua was a little more than three years old, on February 5th 2009, Takara was moved from Seaworld Orlando to Seaworld San Antonio and about one year later, on January 7th 2010, she gave birth to her third calf who was a female. About two months after the birth Takara's youngest calf was named Sakari. Takara weighs 2310 kilograms and measures 5.3 meters (weight and length 2009). Takara means "jewel".
