Hekili was captured on November 28^th 1989 and he probably arrived at National Aquarium the same year. There he lived until he was moved to Seaworld Orlando on a breeding loan on February 16^th 1993. When Hekili had lived at Seaworld Orlando for eight years his first son was born, Deke, and later the same year (on October 3^rd 2001) National Aquarium sold Hekili to Seaworld Orlando. The following year his second son, TK, was born and three years later Hekili’s two daughters were born, Bugs (who was born on June 14^th 2005) and Calypso (who was born on November 8^th 2005) and also his third son, Potter (who was born on July 15^th 2005).

Since the summer of 2009 Hekili lives in Seaworld Orlando's dolphin centre Animal Care (he lived in Dolphin Cove before he was moved  to Animal Care).
