Kayla
was born on November 26th 1988 at Seaworld San Antonio and is the
daughter of Kenau and Orky II. At the age of five years, on April 20th
1991, Kayla was moved for the first time and arrived Seaworld Ohio where she
lived until she was moved back to Seaworld San Antonio on October 14th
1999. In 2004 Kayla became pregnant and in October 2005 she gave birth to her
first calf that was named Halyn. Since Kayla did not take care of her little
daughter the orca trainers at Seaworld San Antonio took care of Halyn instead
and Kayla was moved to Seaworld Orlando on November 17th 2006 while
Halyn stayed at Seaworld San Antonio. The reason why Kayla was moved to
Seaworld Orlando is presumably that there were both several calves and several
orca females there that could teach Kayla how to take care of calves.
Today
Kayla lives at Seaworld Orlando together with several other orcas and currently
she is taking care of the orca calf Trua (born in 2005) since his mother Takara
was moved from Seaworld Orlando in the beginning of 2009. Kayla measures 6.1
meters and weighs 2608 kilograms (weight 2006 and length 2005).
