Cokry II
was captured on December 11th 1969. The same year as she was
captured she arrived at Marineland of the Pacific. On February 28th
1977 Corky II gave birth to her first calf that was a male. Since the calf did
not nurse the trainers took care of the calf instead but unfortunately the calf
passed away on March 3rd 1977. Already on October 31st
1978 Corky II gave birth to her second calf. This calf was also a male and was
named Spooky. Unfortunately this calf did not nurse either and the trainers had
to take care of Corky II’s calf this time too. The calf unfortunately passed
away on November 11th 1978. In 1980 Corky II gave birth to a stillborn calf but
on June 16th 1982 she gave birth to a daughter. This calf was name
Kiva but like previous calves neither this calf nursed. Therefore the trainers
had to take care of this calf too but unfortunately Kiva passed away when she
was just a little more than one month old, on August 3rd 1982. On
July 22nd 1985 Corky II gave birth to another female calf that did
not nurse. Like all of Corky II’s previous calves this calf passed away (on
September 1st 1985). In 1986 and 1987 Corky II gave birth to two
calves that did not survive either and since then she has not given birth to
any more calves.
On
January 22nd 1987 Corky II was moved to Seaworld San Diego where she
lives today. In 1988 an orca named Orkid was born at Seaworld San Diego and
when Orkid’s mother passed away the follwing year Corky II took care of Orkid.
Today Corky II and Seaworld San Diego’s other orcas can be seen at Shamu Cam
where Corky II often can be seen swimming on her back. Currently Corky II is
one of the oldest orcas in captivity and she is probably blind on one eye.
Corky II weighs 3720 kilograms and measures 6,2 meters (weight and length
2004).
