Kasatka
was captured in October 1978. Between 1978 and 1984 Kasatka spent her summers
at Seaworld Ohio and her winters at Seaworld San Diego. During the years
1984-1988 she still lived at Seaworld Ohio during the summers but now she spent
her winters at Seaworld Orlando. In February 1988 Kasatka was moved to Seaworld
San Antonio where she lived for about two years until she was moved to Seaworld
San Diego in February 1990. On July 9th 1991 Kasatka gave birth to
her first calf named Takara. About ten years later she gave birth to her second
calf Nakai. The following year also Takara gave birth to her first calf named
Kohana and in December 2004 Kasatka gave birth to her third calf named Kalia.
Today
Kasatka lives together with her two youngest calves Nakai and Kalia (and four
other orcas) while Takara is currently living at Seaworld San Antonio. Also
Kohana has been moved from Seaworld San Diego and is currently living at Loro
Parque in Spain. At Seaworld San Diego’s webcam Shamu Cam Kasatka and the rest
of the orcas at Seaworld San Diego can be seen every day. Kasatka weighs 2404
kilograms and measures 5,2 meters (weight and length 2005). She is the dominant
female at Seaworld San Diego and her name means “darling” or “killer whale”.
