Orkid
was born on September 23rd 1988 at Seaworld San Diego and is the
daughter of Kandu V and Orky II. She got her name after her father Orky II, who
passed away just three days after Orkid’s birth, and the name means “Orky’s
kid”. Before Orkid was one year old, in August 1989, unfortunately her mother
Kandu V passed away too. After Kandu V’s death Corky II took care of Orkid.
Today
Orkid still lives at Seaworld San Diego and it is probably because of her
personality that she has not been moved since Orkid may be fairly aggressive
sometimes. For example she has been aggressive towards her trainers several
times. However Orkid has also taken care of several orca calves that have been
born at Seaworld San Diego and she is also a very intelligent orca that knows
many behaviours and also has learned how to capture birds. Orkid measures 5,7
meters and weighs 2699 kilograms (weight and length 2009). Each day she eats
59-63 kilograms.
