Sumar was born on May 14th 1998 at Seaworld Orlando and is the son of Taima and Tilikum. When he was three months old Sumar’s mother Taima began to be aggressive against Sumar and they were separated from each other. Already on March 8th 1999 Sumar was moved for the first time and arrived at Seaworld San Diego. He lived there for about one year before he was moved to Seaworld Ohio on April 5th 2000. Sumar did not stay long at Seaworld Ohio either since he was moved back to Seaworld San Diego on February 18th 2001 and has lived there since then.

Today Sumar is a very playful orca that likes to play with both other orcas and with the park’s visitors. He measures 5 meters and weighs 1921 kilograms (weight and length 2006/2007). Sumar is Icelandic and means “summer”.
