Birthdate: 1995?
Captured: got stuck in a fishing net in 1996
Arrived to Vancouver Aquarium: October 16th 2005
Relatives: Hana has given birth to 2 stillborn calves
Hana
arrived at Vancouver Aquarium on October 16th 2005 from Enoshima
Aquarium together with Helen. A few years before Hana was moved to Vancouver
Aquarium she had got stuck in a fishing net and that was the reason why she had
come to Enoshima Aquarium. When she arrived at Vancouver Aquarium Hana did not
have a name since she at Enoshima Aquarium only had had an ID-number (her
ID-numder was 8) so a naming contest was held and she was named Hana. Hana was
also pregnant when she arrived at Vancouver Aquarium and on June 7th
2006 she gave birth to her calf. During the birth Hana got problems and she was
taken to another pool where veternians could examine her. The examinations
showed that Hana’s calf unfortunately was dead and probably had died several
days earlier. The day after the birth Hana already ate again and spent time
with her trainers.
In
January 2007 you could read on Vancouver Aquarium’s website that Hana was
pregnant again and was expected to give birth to her calf in the summer of
2007. On May 23rd 2007 Hana gave birth to her calf but unfortunately
it was deceased at birth. Luckily Hana was doing well after the birth this time
too.
Today
Hana lives together with the two other pacific white-sided dolphins Helen and
Spinnaker in Vancouver Aquarium’s pacific-whitesided dolphin centre.
