Birthdate: 1989

Captured: August 15th 1990

Arrived to Vancouver Aquarium: August 15th 1990

Relatives: the son Tuvaq (deceased) and the daughters Tiqa and Nala (deceased)

Imaq was captured on August 15th 1990 and arrived at Vancouver Aquarium the same year. In July 2002 Imaq’s first son was born and he was named Tuvaq. Unfortunately Tuvaq passed away when he was only three years old. In 2008 Imaq’s first daughter named Tiqa was born. A while before Tiqa’s birth Imaq and the female Kavna had been moved to another centre at Vancouver Aquarium while Tiqa’s mother Qila and her mother Aurora stayed in the centre Arctic Canada. Three days before Tiqa turned 1 year Aurora gave birth to a little daughter. The calf was named Nala but unfortunately passed away on June 21st 2010.

Today Imaq still lives together with Kavna in a centre that is not avaible for Vancouver Aquarium’s visitors. Probably they will be moved back to the other belugas when Tiqa is a little older. Imaq measures 3,9 meters and weighs 1350 kilograms (weight and length 2009). He eats 26 kilograms of fish each day (according to information from 2005).
