Tiqa was
born on June 10th 2008 at Vancouver Aquarium and is the daughter of
Qila and Imaq. During the birth, which could be seen at Vancouver Aquarium’s
Beluga Cam, Qila was alone in the pool while her mother Aurora was in the pool
beside. At birth Tiqa measured about 1,5 meters and weighed about 50 kilograms.
Tiqa was
named on October 24th 2008 through a naming contest. The five last
names that people could vote for in the naming contest were Mira, Kuvia, Sura,
Shiya and Tiqa.
Only a
few days before Tiqa turned 1 year old her grandmother Aurora gave birth to a
calf. Already the day after the calf was born Tiqa and her mother were
introduced to the little calf and Tiqa was very curious about Aurora’s little
daughter. At Vancouver Aquarium’s Beluga Cam you could often see Tiqa swim with
Aurora and her calf Nala until Nala unfortunately passed away in June 2010. Today Tiqa lives with Aurora and Qila and of course you can still watch her at Vancouver Aquarium's Beluga Cam.
